About Me

Growing up in a home filled with music was my greatest joy. I loved watching musicals with my family and imagining myself as part of the performance, often re-enacting them enthusiastically in our living room. I would sing Doris Day and Barbra Streisand songs, with West Side Story and Carmen Jones Musicals always on repeat, and never forgot my mother’s special request, Brenda Lee.

Music was everything to me, from blues, jazz, soul, and funk to reggae, dub, and hip hop, all enriched by an appreciation for instrumental sounds. My earliest inspirations came from my mother’s favourites, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and Frank Sinatra, before extending to my own, including Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. By the time I discovered the music of the 70s, with artists such as Randy Crawford, Melba Moore, The Jones Girls, and Teena Marie, my passion had only grown deeper.

For me, music has always been more than entertainment, it has been my escape. It gave me joy in everyday moments and became my saviour during times of great loss, first when I lost my beloved mother at 19, and later my brother in my 30s. Alongside music, I began writing poetry as a way to lift my spirits and to help friends through their own struggles, something I have carried with me throughout life.

Even through heartbreak and difficult relationships that sought to suppress my natural joy, my love for music, poetry, and my faith always remained. They strengthened my soul, kept my spirit high, and guided me to focus on positivity, no matter what challenges were around me.

These experiences have given me a caring heart and a desire to comfort others through words and music. My songs come from the soul, and I am never shy to share them. To me, love is the greatest creator, and through music I aim to bring love and joy, to lift spirits in times of sadness, and to offer hope when life feels heavy.

My Work

My performance journey began at local community events, guided by my mentor, Mrs. Pauline Sealing. She first encouraged me to share my poetry, and later invited me to present my own showcase at her community gatherings, as well as to support her Barbados Overseas Nursing Association (BONA) events. My involvement then grew through collaborations with Black Women in the Arts, where I performed at venues including Catford Theatre, The Bernard Grant Art Centre, and the Vortex Jazz Bar, among many others over the years.

I have also dedicated my work to supporting causes close to my heart, particularly raising awareness around domestic violence. I performed at numerous community events, supporting the Cassandra Learning Centre, including a special event at The May Fair Hotel in recognition of the police’s support for bereaved families. I was also invited to attend Parliament to stand in solidarity with this cause. I then began performing at Croydon Central Library, contributing regularly to their Black History Month and International Women’s Day events. This work continued for several years and expanded to libraries across London including my own showcase in 2013. Alongside this, I worked with Sutton Women’s Centre, performing at the Women of Power event, and supported families coping with bereavement due to violent circumstances. I also took part in the “100 Miles Walk” event and performed at All Hollows by the Tower.

Although I took time away to raise my children, I have remained committed and active, always ready to give support through the healing power of words and music. Whether through poetry or song, my performances are dedicated to uplifting others and bringing strength, love, and comfort where it is most needed.
